No, the Hotchkiss Library is a nonprofit 501c3. We are recognized by the State of CT as the Principal Public Library of the Town of Sharon. The Town does support us with an annual grant that covers approximately 30 to 35% of our operating costs. The library is open to all and our services and programs are provided to the community for no charge.
Yes, the restored library boasts the wonderful new Hayes Family Community Room, a multi-purpose space, which is available to outside groups, when not being used or library programs. The Buckley Family Conference Room is available for smaller groups during the library’s operating hours. Details can be found here.
Yes, the restored library offers the Collins Adult Reading Room on the ground floor; the Buckley Family Conference Room and the Ross Family Digital Workroom on the second floor.
Patrons are encouraged to use these spaces. There is also a comfortable reading nook in the back corner of the mezzanine – a favorite spot for generations of Sharon readers.
Miss Renee leads Story Time every Monday at 10:30 and the first Saturday of every month at 10:30.
The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon is not accepting used books. Please support the many other area library book sales: Scoville Memorial Library, Kent Memorial Library, Norfolk Library, Millerton Library, and David M. Hunt Library.

Anyone who is a Sharon resident or taxpayer is eligible for a Hotchkiss Library card, which is valid for three years. Hotchkiss Library patrons may use their card at other Connecticut libraries. There is no age restriction. We do issue cards to children when parents feel their child is responsible enough to have one. Parking is available on 10 Upper Main Street in front of the Library. As part of our newly renovated building, we also have three additional parking spaces, and one handicap accessible parking space to the north of the building.
Hotchkiss uses two services to access digital reading materials and audiobooks.
