The Hotchkiss Library of Sharon is an association library, which means that, although we are recognized by the State of CT as the “Principal Public Library” of the Town of Sharon, we are a nonprofit organization, not a part of the municipal government. Our fiscal year begins on July 1. We are grateful to the Town of Sharon for their support, which on average covers about 30% of our operating costs, but it is private donations that fund the majority of our expenses. Your donations go directly to the cost of purchasing books, audiobooks, and DVDs; they fund the digital libraries that bring you downloadable eBooks and Audiobooks, as well as streaming films. Your gifts fund our programs, including lectures, films, book groups, arts education, children’s story times and activities, summer reading, and pay for the staff that help you find just the right book. We have to heat the building, clean the building, and maintain our gorgeously expanded and restored building. All of these things are expansive. We, quite simply, could not do all of this without your support. Please, therefore, consider a tax-deductible gift to the library. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who supported our Capital Campaign, Honoring the Past, Forging the Future. Because of YOU, we reached our goal of $3.5 million. You restored our beloved building, making her shine brighter than ever. Your generosity gave us a new circulation area, new staff offices and workspace, two accessible restrooms, a wheelchair lift, and a beautiful community programming room. Our Giving Societies
Donors at the highest levels enjoy the benefits of the 1893 Society, the Maria Hotchkiss Society, and the President’s Circle. This financial leadership is critical to our financial health. Members enjoy a private reception with an author or other well-known speaker. The greatest reward, however, is knowing what this level of support means for the Library. We thank these donors for their support, which occurred between July 1, 2022 and June 30, 2023. We aim to update these listings quarterly.
