“Dark Hillside” by Robert Kipniss

Framed Mezzotint by Robert Kipniss, created 2016, 4/18.
From one of America’s best known print makers and painters, Kipniss uses “exceptionally subtle black and white tones” and “creates an overall atmospheric effect.”
Educated as a poet and writer, Kipniss turned to painting, not long after earning his MFA from University of Iowa. As his work was embraced by museums and collectors he added lithography and mezzotints often featuring trees and grassy landscapes, sometimes windowless houses, but never people. His work is known for conveying a sense of deep solitude and pronounced moodiness.” His work is held by museums world-wide, and collectors have seen his work in his many single artist shows.
From the Artist:
“I may be painting trees and houses but when I look at them – that’s not what I see. I see an atmosphere, a moment, a quickly passing experience that I’m trying to capture. My art is of intensity, of delving, of exploring the soul.”
